EV3 Motor doenst work

Postby leJosNeedHelp » Fri Jan 17, 2014 10:37 am

Hi Comm,

i'm work with the ev3 and i'm using the new lib alpha 0.5.0.
Yesterday I installed it sucessfully and tried to run the motors.
They are at ports B and C and my javacode is the following:

Code: Select all
import lejos.hardware.lcd.LCD;
import lejos.hardware.motor.*;

public class EV3FirstProgram {

    public static void main(String[] args) throws InterruptedException {
           LCD.clear();
           LCD.drawString("Test", 3, 3);
           Motor.B.setSpeed(720);
           Motor.C.setSpeed(720);
           Motor.B.forward();
           Motor.C.forward();
           Thread.sleep(1000);
           Motor.B.stop();
           Motor.C.stop();

    }

}

The drawString instruction works, but after the print at the display nothing happens. Are there any methods missing? I'm stumped ...

PS: I worked with the motors at September and everything was fine.

I hope somebody know a solution or a tip,

Thank you very much and greetz from germany :-)

Are you sure you are using the class files from 0.5.0-aplha and not the master. we have changed the motor control code on master and this needs different kernel modules to work. Please see the sticky posts on why you should not be using master unless you really, really know what you are doing. Please see other posts on how to checkout the 0.5.0-aplha tag of the source from git.

Hi Andy,

first, thank you very much :-)!

I'm not sure what alpha 0.5.0 i'm using, i've loaded that one : http://sourceforge.net/p/lejos/ev3/ci/master/tree/
Maybe it's the master?
If so, where can i download the new classfiles ? And what's the different between the "normal" and the "master" files?
I'm realy new and i'm using eclipse and i'm not a master in using it ... :-D Do i import the "normal" files like the "master" files and build a buildpath to it?

Thank's again :-)

Read the Wiki and search the forum. After you have checked out leJOS from git you need to switch to the 0.5.0-alpha tag. Sorry at this stage this stuff is not very end user friendly, but that is how it is.

I'm not sure what you mean by "normal", master is the most up to date state of leJOS in git, it is where all of the latest changes are made by the leJOS developers. When we make a release we tag the state of the git files (in this case with 0.5.0-aplha) and so to get a stable version of the sources you need to be using those tagged files. There are lots of blogs and articals on the web talking about using eclipse and git. It is a steep learing curve, but that is why we are only at the alpha stage with this project. When we have user friendly installers etc. we will move to beta. If you want to us the alpha you will have to put up with a little pain and try and work some of this stuff out for yourself.
