Infinite boot with Edimax dongle if usb cable is not plugged

Postby Eugef » Sat Jan 18, 2014 9:17 pm

Hi guys,

I have following issue - my brick cannot boot (it freezes on Mindstorm logo) if Edimax dongle IS insterted and USB cable IS NOT connected (to brick and computer).

If i plug in USB cable and connect it to computer - then brick starts normally with Edimax dongle and i can connect to Wifi using it.

I am using latest 0.5.0 version of leJos.

Here is content of /etc/wpa_supplicant.conf

Code: Select all
#eapol_version=1
#ap_scan=1
ctrl_interface=/var/run/wpa_supplicant

#fast_reauth=1

# Pers
network={
        ssid="ev3lan"
        key_mgmt=WPA-PSK
        psk=fe9115c7665b56a95c03e3e23ec807f4cbe17fea82e625d9b85b2f79fe34cfee
        pairwise=CCMP TKIP
        group=CCMP TKIP
        proto=RSN
}

As you see, there is default "ev3lan" network which i don't have.
I have tried change ssid and psk to correct values (for psk i specified password in quotes), but in this case brick doesn't starts even with usb cable - so i need to recreate bootable SD.

Here is output of ifconfig:

Code: Select all

Do you have any idea, why my brick requires USB cable to start?
Any help is appreciated.

Was there a reason why you didn't use the menu to configure Wifi?

The network scripts look for the version of wpa_supplicant.conf in /root/lejos/bin/utils first where the menu creates it, and only use the version is etc/wpa_supplicant if they don't find one created by the menu. As long as you have not used the menu, what you have done to /etc/wps_supplicant/wpa_supplicant.conf should work. For the next release, we are using a much simpler version of wpa_supplicant.conf that use more default values and should work with a wider range of access points:

ctrl_interface=/var/run/wpa_supplicant

network={
ssid=
key_mgmt=WPA-PSK
psk=
}

The menu adds the ssid in quotes and encodes the password (doing the equivalent of wpa_passphrase) and adds it in hex to the psk line. The password in clear, in quotes, should also work.

I don't know why your system is hanging. I didn't think an incorrect wpa_suppliant.conf file caused that.
