Wireless Connection Problem

Postby Dzivo » Wed Apr 09, 2014 11:09 am

I am using EDIMAX micro wi-fi dongle for my EV3 but I can't get connection to wireless. I have tried to access networks that don't have any encryption but it still won't work.
Using Lejos config
(we made wpa_config file and put it on sd card)
- it looks like this
network={
ssid="Teaching Lab"
key_mgmt=NONE
}

next thing I get is

wpa_state= SCANNING
Searching for AP..
Sending Discover...
and in the end It shows "No lease failing".

Can somebody help me please?

What EDIMAX dongle are you trying to use? When you click on the WiFi option in the menu do you see any access points listed? There are a number of users that are happily using the WiFi dongle specified on the Wiki (I have two) with no problems. So it is unlikely that this is a general problem.

Also when asking for help please provide as much detail as possible, what version of leJOS are you running? When do you see the output you have provided. Where did you put the wpa_supplicant.conf file and what name did you give it?

Sorry because of this late reply :)
We realized that wifi dongle works because we were able to connect to hotspot through mobile device but now it seems that something is wrong because when we try to connect through menu and choose mobile device as network it gives us something like wpa_ctrl_open = Input7output error :S Please can somebody write some kind of supplicant that will connect to unsecure network and tell us where to put it on SD card.

I have exactly the same issue with the Edimax wifi adapter. But it works fine with the netgear one.

Obviously the Edimax hardware works, as you can scan the wifi networks. But somewhere along where it applies for a DHCP lease it dies.

Anyone setup an Edimax successfully using a manual config file , and not using the menu system like I did?

I am using Lejos 0.81 with an Edimax EW-7811UN.

Thanks,

loiphin.

I doubt if anyone is going to be able to help you. The edimax works fine with leJOS on a lot of different networks. It sounds like there is some particular problem with your setup. If you can login to your EV3 (over USB/BT) then you can try connecting with WiFi and after it fails typing dmesg which may show some interesting information. What sort of network are you using? What sort of authentication?
