0.8.1 beta problem: keep starting(solved),SDboot after setup

Postby liugoanywhere » Fri Apr 18, 2014 4:08 pm

I just downloaded 0.8.1 and wrote to my SD card. But I cannot boot from SD card and it keeps showing "Mindstorm Starting..". No lejos logo appears. Whats the matter with 0.8.1

Do you have the standard Lego firmware installed? Have you ever installed any form of enhanced firmware? If so please re-install the standard Lego firmware and try again.

After changing to standard firmware, it works. Thank you.

Suffer from another problem, after installing successfully, the EV3 does not boot from SD but from original system.

I use a temporary solution:
1. first setup 0.8.1, but system could not be started from SD
2.Use SD card reader to export all files inside the extfs filesystem on SD.
3.Erase the SD to FAT32, setup lejos 0.8 and boot successfully.
4. use scp to copy home&lib&usr folder to EV3
e.g. scp -r home/* root@10.0.1.1:/home
scp -r lib/* root@10.0.1.1:/lib
5. restart and 0.8.1 boot successfully

I have V1-03E firmware installed on my EV3 that goes with the Lego Education software. V1.03H is used with the home version. Are both "standard"?

Yes. Before installing 0.8, the SD should be erased to FAT32.

liugoanywhere, if you have time please try doing whatever you did to erase your sdcard for the 0.8.0 install and try the 0.8.1 install again.

I have 1.04H firware and also can't boot with Lejos 0.8.1.

Should i downgrade to 1.03H? If yes, how can i do this?

I was trying to boot with sdcard for 0.8 as described here http://sourceforge.net/p/lejos/wiki/Installing%20leJOS/ but no luck :(

Yes you should install the standard Lego firmware (what you have is some sort of enhanced version). Just use the standard Lego software to install the original Lego firmware.

Sorry, somewhat off-topic but a query related to the firmware version that was shown to be the cause.
Does this mean that someone could release a custom firmware version which no longer communicates with the Lego software, therefore rendering it impossible to restore the Lego firmware and effectively 'bricking' the brick. Or is there some sort of fail-safe 'factory restore' facility.

I can boot with the SDcard, but it stops at "Start menu...".
I created the card with "ev3sdcard" from the lejossoftware.
What could be the mistake?

Please see this thread:
viewtopic.php?f=18&t=6761

Are you sure you have the correct version of Java installed? Are you sure you ejected the card safely after running the install program. You may find that reformatting the card and running the install again fixes things.
