Mac OS X Mavericks and NXT Bluetooth Help

Postby dparekh » Sun Dec 01, 2013 7:54 am

All,

Has anyone gotten the Bluetooth working with the 8547 NXT Brick on latest Mac OS X Mavericks?

I can successfully load programs over the USB cable from my Mac Book Pro but am struggling with Bluetooth option.

I can successfully pair the device from my Mac Book Pro and am trying to set up a serial connection per this guide:

http://www.eng.buffalo.edu/~colinlea/Bl ... th_NXT.pdf

Seems Apple has removed the ability to create a serial connection.

Does anyone know of a workaround?

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

It's probably the same issue as this: http://www.lejos.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=3833

Quick update -

Although I've been unable to get bluetooth working with Mavericks natively on the Mac book Pro (2013 Oct release), I decided to go the VMWare approach. Am thrilled to say it Works!!!

Installed VMFusion Professional with an guest image of Win 7 64-bit

After booting into the Win 7 image, it detected the NXT Brick.

Then followed the directions to install leJOS API.

Able to successfully load the HelloWorld program over Bluetooth.

Wish this was native to Mac OS, but it is a decent, simple, and straight-forward workaround.

Hope this helps.

EDIT: It looks like LEGO Education has the driver as well http://cache.lego.com/r/education/-/media/lego%20education/home/downloads/software/drivers/fantommac108.zip?l.r=-1916701438

I finally got bluetooth working with NXT-G on Mavericks. I found an updated Fantom driver on the National Instruments website.

http://www.ni.com/download/labview-ftc-toolkit-2012-2013/4332/en/

In the dmg that you download, there is a folder called "Packages" - open it and double-click "legodriver.pkg" to install it, then fire up NXT-G and you should be good to go. You don't need to install any of the other packages.

Hi all!

Any news on how to have leJOS connecting to the NXT using bluetooth?
Tried all the options, and I could get my NXT paired with my mac, but still couldn't load any program from eclipse...

Let me know if have any news on this.

Cheers,
