Need help setting up the EV3

Postby Dalek_Slayer » Sun Jan 26, 2014 12:05 am

I am new to this whole thing of changing the firmware on the Mindstorms brick. But I am also tired of the drag and drop programing of the EV3 so I deicided to try the LEJOS and I got the firmware working on the Brick but the problem that I'm running into is setting it up on the comupter. I followed the instructions on the setup sit for LEJOS http://sourceforge.net/p/lejos/wiki/Dev ... h%20leJOS/ . But when I try to run the Dbusjava build file I get this error:

Code: Select all
Exception in thread "main" java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: Could not initialize class com.sun.jna.Native
   at lejos.internal.io.NativeHCI$LibBlue.<clinit>(NativeHCI.java:55)
   at lejos.internal.io.NativeHCI.<clinit>(NativeHCI.java:62)
   at lejos.hardware.LocalBTDevice.<init>(LocalBTDevice.java:19)
   at lejos.hardware.Bluetooth.getLocalDevice(Bluetooth.java:12)
   at lejos.hardware.BrickFinder.discoverNXT(BrickFinder.java:89)
   at lejos.hardware.BrickFinder.getDefault(BrickFinder.java:42)
   at lejos.hardware.lcd.LCD.<clinit>(LCD.java:43)
   at EV3FirstProgram.main(EV3FirstProgram.java:8)

If it makes a difference I'm running eclipse in Fedora 20. If someone would help me figure this out I would appreciate it.
Thanks

Hi,
what exactly are you doing to generate that error message? It looks like you are trying to run a program intended to execute on the EV3 on your PC.

I'm running the build.xml file like the instructions say to. And I'm running it with the EV3 pluged into my computer.

I'm selecting the run button in eclipse and telling it to run it as a build ant

Please post all of the output from the ant build. Whatever it is you are doing is not correct. EV3FirstProgram runs on the EV3 not on the PC. I would suggest that you right click on the ant file for whatever project you are trying to build and select run as-> ant that way you can be sure it is running the correct items.

I tried running the Dbusjava/build.xml the way you suggested and I got this error:
Code: Select all

BUILD FAILED
/home/Caleb/git/ev3/DBusJava/build.xml:33: Problem: failed to create task or type scp
Cause: Could not load a dependent class com/jcraft/jsch/Logger
It is not enough to have Ant's optional JARs
you need the JAR files that the optional tasks depend upon.
Ant's optional task dependencies are listed in the manual.
Action: Determine what extra JAR files are needed, and place them in one of:
        -/usr/lib64/eclipse/plugins/org.apache.ant_1.8.4.v201209061652/lib
        -/home/Caleb/.ant/lib
-a directory added on the command line with the -lib argument

Do not panic, this is a common problem.
The commonest cause is a missing JAR.

This is not a bug; it is a configuration problem

As it says this means that you do not have the scp module installed. You needs this if you want to make use of the ability for an ant script to copy the built files to the EV3. In the case of the dbus stuff this is not needed, so you have actually managed to build the dbus jar files. You now need to do the same for the ev3classes project. To avoid the error you can select what targets to build in this case you need to select the jar target rather than the copy target.

The Wiki contains details of what you may need to do to fix the scp problem:
https://sourceforge.net/p/lejos/wiki/De ... h%20leJOS/

You will also find other threads on the forum that address this issue.

Thanks for the help I downloaded the scp file and gave eclipse the path for it and made sure that the ev3classes file was workspace and the both that and the EV3FirstProgram both built successfully. although there must be some thing wrong with the code for EV3FirstProgram that is given in the setuup instructions cause when I run it the brick crashes. but other than that It works perfectly.
Thanks

Are you sure you are using the code from the 0.5.0-alpha tag? That sounds like you are trying to use ev3classes.jar from master with the 0.5.0-alpha SD card. Again see the Wiki page for details on how to switch from master to the 0.5.0-alpha tag.

Sorry no idea what is going on in your case, I'm pretty sure there is nothing wrong with the example code as many others have built and run it without any problems. What makes you think the EV3 has crashed? What happens? Are you able to compile and run any other programs?
