Do I understand correctly? After changing the Lego firmware to 1.04H, leJOS doesn't boot anymore?

With firmware 1.04H the first installation process did not start according to the WIKI entry for creation of a bootable SD card. Meaning the formatting of the sd card etc.
I have not switched back to firmware 1.04H to check if leJOS would boot or not.
If that would be of any help I could try it out and report the result.

Well, it's bad enough that leJOS wouldn't install. Are you sure, the SD card you used was the same both times? I'm pretty surprised that changing the Lego firmware affects whether the leJOS installation process works or not.

100% sure. I even tried a second sd card from a different manufacturer with the same result. I formlatted both cards as fat 32 and i even tried the sd500.img approach. Nothing worked and i was desperate. Then it occured to me that i might have a different fw than everybody else. Bingo. I am also very much surprised, but i believe this should turn out to be a repeatable behaviour. As i said before, i am willing to explore more if there is some value in it. Just give me a hint.

I'm also rather surprised by this as the actual firmware should not make any difference (it is the uboot bootstrap that will be loading leJOS). Note however that firmware 1.04H is not an official Lego firmware download (at least as far as I can tell the only firmware download from Lego is 1.03H) see:
http://www.lego.com/en-us/mindstorms/do ... reference/

Where did you download 1.04H from?

I can confirm that there's a problem if you format the card with something different than the sd500.img. I formatted it with windows seven disk utility (diskmgmt.msc), made a single fat32 partition and, after the installation (that went smoothly), the brick rebooted to the official firmware, not lejos.

Reformatted the card with sd500.img and win32diskimage and it worked2 everything was installed and then the brick rebooted into lejos.

Btw when i reinserted the card into the pc after writing sd500.img, windows detected an error on the filesystem and asked to fix it (which i said no). It looks like that sd500.img has something more going on than a simple fat32 ?

That sounds very strange. If the initial boot works to the leJOS installer than so should the reboot. This is not the same issue that is being described above. In that case the leJOS install did not start. If anyone else gets this problem (where the install works but then the reboot does not boot leJOS), please insert the card in your Windows and check for any disk errors, also provide as much information as you can on the card layout etc.

I got it from this thread

So that is not an official Lego release.Perhaps that build dos not contain a uboot image, or if it does it may not contain the steps to attempt to boot of the sd card first (which the standard Lego uboot will do).

I had same issue with firmware 1.05m from http://mindcuber.com/mindcub3r/mindcub3r.html . It works with 0.7 lejos, but not with 0.8. Lejos 0.8 modify SD cadr. Next boot frozen on "reading uImage" at console . When I changed firmware back to 1.03H everything works.

Is the freeze on the first boot of the SD card or after the install has completed?

Are you saying all you did was to change back to the old Lego firmware and then the card booted, or did you also re-write the SD card and then it worked?

I made several test. Conclusion of my tests: When I made new SD Lejos card on PC and run it under FW 1.05m it is not work - freeze (on first start, sorry for incorrect previous post). On next step I only downgrade firmware to 1.03H and the same SD card with Lejos boot and working....
When I use this same card (fully made uder FW 1.03h) and upgrade to FW 1.05m it is work also.

I don't think it is available yet. We are still testing it ready for the release.
