Broken Oracle Link

Postby vojt9k » Sat Jun 21, 2014 5:30 am

Hello everybody,
I wanted to download EV3 JRE but the oracle link seems to be broken. It gives me 404.

http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/java/ ... 82511.html

Is there anybody who would know about an alternate link or will be willing to provide his own copy and post it somewhere?

I am looking for Win32 XP version.

Thank you in advance
V.

Looks like a general problem at Oracle at the moment. I assume that what you are looking for is the Embedded version of Java 7 SE for the EV3? This is not specific to XP. Unfortunately I can't help with a download for that.

The link I went to get the java 7 arm9 jre earlier this week was on an oracle blog post, but it's down now...

But this page looks promising? I can't say which exact one you need for lejos.

You need armv5 for the EV3, unless you really know what you are doing, make sure you use the Java 7 link, not Java 8.

I finally managed to download it from:
http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/java/ ... 00042.html

Why Arm5 not Arm9? Ev3 is ARMv9 architecture, isn't it?

EV3 is not ARMv9 it has no hardware floating point. The Arm numbering scheme is very confusing the actual processor in the EV3 is the ARM926EJ-S, which as you can see:
http://www.arm.com/products/processors/ ... arm926.php
actually implements the ARMv5TEJ instruction set. Hence the need to use the ARMv5 download (I don't think there is actually an ARMv9 architecture yet).

I'm new in this field so im asking (I've read about ARMv9 on ev3 wikipedia page). Anyway Oracle prepared ARMv5 version specially for ev3 so it should be used.
I've tried regular ARMv5 Linux - Headless EABI, SoftFP ABI, Little Endian3 - ejre-7u60-fcs-b19-linux-arm-sflt-headless-07_may_2014.tar.gz from http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/java/embedded/embedded-se/downloads/javase-embedded-downloads-2209751.html but it doesn't work.
Now i will try that one from: http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/java/embedded/embedded-se/downloads/legomindstormev3-2200042.html
Thanks

Oracle did not do a special build for the EV3, they did put up a special page for us but it links to the same builds. What do you mean by "it doesn't work", I would be very surprised if there is a problem with the standard ARMv5 build. What problems did you actually have? As I said the Arm naming is very confusing there is a big difference between ARM9 and ARMv9 I don't think ARMv9 actually exists (yet).

To sum up. Url http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/java/embedded/embedded-se/downloads/legomindstormev3-2200042.html works fine and downloaded ejre-7-... works well.
